Fruits name starts with the letter " A "


1    Abiu  Fruit                                            
      Abiu  Fruit - Emperor's Golden Fruit 

     Abiu is an attractive, bright yellow fruit with a sweet, caramel flavoured, creamy-white pulp.

The fruit is round to oval in shape, sometimes pointed, with smooth bright yellow skin. It has creamy sweet, succulent flesh which tastes like mango mixes with persimmon. Cut in half and scoop out the flesh with a spoon. A young grafted plant grows in abundant sun light can expect first harvest in about 18 months. It is a hardy plant and needs very little care. It bears fruits all year round. This is a garden plant, it provides shade as well as fruits to eat. 
It has successfully grown and marketed the fruit in MalaysiaSingapore and Hong Kong. The fruit was renamed “Wong Kum Kuo” which means Emperor’s Golden Fruit and it was very well received by consumers in the region.Abiu fruit tree originates from the Amazon.

   Açaí Berries: Açaí being a nutritional superfood.  Small Fruit with Big Benefits

Acai is a palm tree that grows naturally in Central and South America. This palm is particularly abundant in the Amazon 
rainforest of Brazil and produces a fruit berries. The Acai fruit is a staple diet of members of indigenous tribes of the Amazon.  It is a small round black purple, grape-sized fruits.  The juice and pulp of acai berry have been seen to be very useful fruit and is used in various juice blends, smoothies, sodas, and different beverages. The juice has also been used in a flavored liqueur.

3   Apricot Fruit                                          
     Apricots (prunus armeniaca)

Apricots (prunus armeniaca) are stone fruits also known as Armenian plums and called as “golden eggs of the sun."

Apricot are the yellowish-orange fruits that belong to the family of Rosacea. They look like a smaller version of a peach but share the tartness of purple plums.  Apricots are small in size and a fully matured fruit can be between 1.5 cm to 2.5 cm.  Apricot, closely related to peaches, almonds, plums, and cherries. Apricots are cultivated throughout the temperate regions of the world, especially in the Mediterranean. They are eaten fresh or cooked and are preserved by canning or drying. The fruit is also widely made into jam and is often used to flavour liqueurs. Apricots are a good source of vitamin A and are high in natural-sugar content. Dried apricots are an excellent source of iron.

4    Avocado Fruit                                                         

Avocado fruits are  smooth round, glossy green or yellowish green fruits that are low in oil and weigh up to 2 pounds. Guatemalan types produce medium ovoid or pear-shaped, pebbled green fruits that turn blackish-green when ripe. The fruit of Mexican varieties are small with paper thin skins that turn glossy green or black when ripe. The flesh of avocados is deep green near the skin, becoming yellowish nearer the single large, inedible ovoid seed. The flesh is hard when harvested but softens to a buttery texture. Seeds may sprout within an avocado when it is over-mature, causing internal molds and breakdown. Clinical feeding studies in humans have shown that avocado oil can reduce blood cholesterol.

5    Aguaje  fruit                                                             
      Aguaje - mauritia flexuosa 

   The Amazon has given us one of its richest and most nutritious fruits: the aguaje, a sweet and sour fruit with great nutritional value.  Agauje is pronounced “Ah – gua – hay”. This is the name in Peru, in the Brasillian Amazon its called “Buriti” and in other places, “Moriche Palm”. Aguaje is a reddish brown fruit with a scaly covering, and a deep yellow pulp inside. It is the fruit of a palm tree which grows all over the Amazon regions of Brasil and Peru.  Aguaje is an extraordinary fruit, containing between 7 – 12 times the beta carotene of carrots, making it the most concentrated natural plant source of beta carotene (vitamin “A”) in the world.  This fruit is known as the “The miracle fruit for women”.
      It is an elegant tree which can reach up to 25 metres in height. The large leaves form a rounded crown. The flowers are yellowish, and appear from December to April. The fruit, which grows from December to June, is a chestnut colour and is covered with shiny scales. The yellow flesh covers a hard, oval, nut. 
      This edible fruit has high vitamin C content, and used to make juice, jam, ice cream, and a fermented “wine”. Oil high in vitamin A, is extracted from the pulp and is frequently used to treat burns because of its soothing qualities. The inflorescence buds are eaten as a vegetable, and the sap can be drunk fresh or fermented.

6     Akebi Fruits                                                                           
       Akebi -  akebia quinata

       This is the fruit of a semi-evergreen, sprawling vine and is a member of the Lardizabalaceae family. The purple fruits are sometimes known as Akebia in rural villages and were initially found growing wild in the forests along the mountainsides in Japan. Other name as Chocolate Vine.
        Purple Akebi is a cylindrical to oblong fruit, averaging  10 -13 centimeters in length that delicately hangs from trailing vines. There are multiple varieties of akebi fruit varying in size and appearance, but the skin is generally thick, spongy, and semi-firm with a soft give when squeezed. Depending on the variety, the fruit may also ripen from green to violet, grey, or purple-grey when mature. It is important to note that wild cultivars will split open when ripe, revealing their flesh, while cultivated varieties will remain unopened when mature. Underneath the skin, there is a translucent, gelatinous center that has many small and edible, black-brown seeds suspended throughout the flesh. Purple Akebi has a soft and crunchy consistency with a mild, sweet, and subtly bitter flavour.
      In the modern-day, the majority of Purple Akebi fruits sold in the market are the cultivated variety, and the fruits have become a specialty item sold to tourists, fruit enthusiasts, and as luxury gifts for friends and family.

7     Achacha Fruit                                             
       Achacha - garcinia humilis

      Achacha is a tropical fruit, sometimes called the Bolivian mangosteen. It is related to the mangosteen. Achacha is native to the Amazon forest. In Bolivia, the fruits are known as Achachairu, from the native Guarani language meaning ‘honey kiss’. Achacha, marketed as “the dancing fruit,” is most commonly found in Bolivia though it is gaining in popularity in Australia, Europe and throughout some parts of South East Asia. 
      Achacha fruits are often eaten raw, straight from the tree. Achacha can be chilled for several hours prior to eating, which sharpens the flavour and makes for a refreshing treat. Achacha pulp can be pureed and used to make tarts, sorbet or gelato. The pulp can be incorporated into beverages and cocktails, or made into liquor. 
       The achacha has an appealing colour and form and is very decorative. It is egg-shaped, up to 6 cm long by 4 cm in diameter. It takes on a reddish-orange shade when mature. There is usually one significant coffee-coloured seed, but larger fruit may have more than one seed.  The taste is described as both bitter and sweet and is somewhat reminiscent of lemonade. The rather tough, bitter rind can be split open with a knife or with the teeth, and the edible part of the fruit sucked off the seed.

8    Apple - Baya Marisa Fruit                     
      Baya Marisa Apple -  malus domestica 

     This exciting new variety Apple developed in Germany also known as Tickled Pink has the most remarkable and unusual red juicy flesh. The sweet crisp fruits are delicious and are packed with vitamins and antioxidants.
     Baya Marisa Apple is an excellent multi-purpose variety with a sweet/sharp flavour. Red slices are attractive in a salad or with cheese. Good for cooking also, slices stay pink and keep their shape. Makes pink juice/cider. Also reputedly good for drying.  Healthy tree with good disease resistance.  Highly ornamental tree also with large, very dark glossy leaves and red/violet flowers. The fruit can be harvested in September and October.

9    Apple - Pristine     
      Pristine Apple [Co-op 32] - 'Co Op 10' x 'Camuzat' 


   Pristine apples, botanically classified as malus domestica, are an early variety. The sweet-tart fruit was intentionally created in the early 20th century as a summer variety that farmers could grow and sell before the main crop season arrived. Before Pristine apples, early-season varieties were primarily tart fruits with a short shelf life. To change this reputation, Pristine apples were developed from multiple crosses to have extended storage capabilities and a sweeter flavour while being highly productive and resistant to disease. 
     These apples have a beautiful golden yellow colour that includes a pink blush with a crisp texture and a sweet-tart flavour, Pristine apples make for a tasty and healthy treat.  Beyond being a great eating apple, their high sugar content makes them excellent for cooking and baking.

10    Alligator Pears Fruit   
         Alligator pears(avocado) - persea americana

Alligator pears (avocado) is a tropical or subtropical fruit native from South America, which has been referred to as the most nutritious of all fruits. It is highly valued not only for its unique texture, exquisite taste and aroma, and nutritional profile, but also for the numerous healthy benefits that it possesses. For all of this, avocado has gained worldwide recognition and its consumption has considerably increased in the last years.

Avocados are an ancient fruits and originated from Central America and Mexico. This bright green fruit with a large pit and dark leathery skin. They’re also known as alligator pears or butter fruit.  These fruits are commonly called as butter fruits in India. This fruit looks similar to pear fruit. This fruits are good source of nutrients compared to other fruits.
