Today, it is grown all over the world.  It goes by many names, including pitaya, pitahaya, and strawberry pear.  The two most common types have bright red skin with green scales that resemble a dragon — hence the name.
The fruit normally weighs from 150 to 600 grams; some may reach 1 kilogram. Early imports from Colombia to Australia were designated Hylocereus ocampensis (or Cereus repandus, the red fruit) and Cereus triangularis (supposedly, the yellow fruit).
The most widely available variety has white pulp with black seeds, though a less common type with red pulp and black seeds exists as well.  Another variety — referred to as yellow dragon fruit — has yellow skin and white pulp with black seeds. Flavour is associated with the colour of the flesh: whitish dragon fruit often has a mild taste while darker, redder flesh  can be sweeter and juicier.

  1. These days, I read too many articles that contain numerous grammatical errors but I am at awe to find that this article doesn’t have a single grammatical error. However, I see that the writer has used a few big words which the laymen may not be aware of. Otherwise, this is a greatly written article. I’m going to share it in my Facebook and Twitter pages.
