Fruits name starts with the letter " K "


1     Kaffir lime

         Kaffir lime is a tropical fruit that is native to various parts of Asia including Thailand and southern China. This dwarf citrus tree may reach up to 150cms (5 feet tall), it can easily be kept as a small bush for continual cropping of leaves.
    Oil extracted from the leaves, as well as the leaves themselves, is commonly used for medicinal purposes. The oil is often mixed into shampoos, soaps, salves, fragrances, and other cosmetic products, while the leaves are usually applied topically or orally to induce a specific healthy result.
       The antibacterial and antioxidant qualities of kaffir limes make them powerful tools to boost the immune system. Not only does the topical application prevent infections and bacteria from accumulating on the skin, but when consumed, kaffir limes can help prevent a wide variety of gastrointestinal illnesses and stimulate the immune system via antioxidant effects.
       The juice of the fruit can also be used as a detergent for clothing. In fact, it is known as being a very effective cleanser. Some use it as natural bleach for the removal of tough stains. It is also used as a shampoo to clean hair. Its fruit and leaves are used in Southeast Asian cuisine and its essential oil is used in perfumery.  Its rind and crushed leaves emit an intense citrus fragrance.

2    Kaki Fruit                                                                         
      Kaki Fruit - diospyros kaki 

     Kaki tree is an often multi-stemmed, slow-growing, deciduous tree with a fairly open, round crown. It can grow up to a height of 8 -12 metres. Other names are persimmon and Oriental persimmon. 

      The tree is widely cultivated, especially in Japan and China, for its edible fruit.  A handsome, ornamental tree with drooping leaves and branches that give it a languid, rather tropical appearance, it is often grown in gardens.
     This exotic fruits are rich in vitamins, nutrients and antioxidants, vital for optimum health with various medicinal and chemical uses of fruits and leaves. Its fruit is usually consumed as a fresh or dried fruit. It is believed to have originated in the mountain area of southern China and has been cultivated as an important fruit crop in China, Korea as well as in Japan for centuries. It is commonly cultivated in warm regions of the world including China, Korea, Japan, Brazil, Spain, Turkey, Italy and Israel.

3     Kabosu fruit                                                   
 
     Kabosu are a Japanese citrus fruit.  Kabosu tree is very similar to another Japanese citrus variety, yuzu. The juice can be compared to the one of a regular lemon and it replaces vinegar in a number of local dishes. The plant that produces the fruits is small in size and looks like a thorny shrub or small tree. The fruit is yellow when ripe but it is normally harvested while still green. 
      The fruit of kabosu is spherical, with a diameter of about 2 inches. It can be consumed at any time, when it is ripe and yellow or when unripe, with a lime green color. The rind is normally smooth but it can be slightly irregular, while several seeds are located inside the yellow pulp. The taste of the fruit has been compared to a mix of mint, lemon and melon. Like all citrus fruits, it is sweet and acidic at the same time.  
       Kabosu is very rich in vitamin C, just like any other citrus fruit. It is usually turned into a vinegar substitute, which is said to have important health benefits. Some believe that it can balance blood pressure and cure liver diseases. The juice also has strong antiseptic properties and can kill bacteria, being especially potent against throat infections of any kind.

 4     Kiwano Fruit                                                   
        Kiwano - cucumis metuliferus

     This fruit is an annual vine in the cucumber and melon family, cucurbitaceae. Its fruit has horn-like spines, hence the name horned melon.  Other names are horned melon, spiked melon, jelly melon, melano, African horned cucumber, jelly melon, hedged gourd and english tomato.
      Ripe fruit has orange skin and lime green, jelly-like flesh with a refreshingly fruity taste, and texture similar to a passion fruit or pomegranate.  This is native to Sub-Saharan Africa.  It is now grown in the United States, Portugal, Italy, Germany, Chile, Australia, and New Zealand.
      This fruit is an odd-looking, exotic fruit with a spiky, yellow-orange rind and jelly-like, lime-green flesh. Some people think the flavour is similar to a banana, while others compare it to lime, kiwi or cucumber. Kiwano horned fruit is native to the hot, dry climates of central and southern Africa.

5     Kadsura Fruit                                   
       Kadsura - kadsura coccinea

    A rare, edible fruit from southern China and southeast Asia. It is a vining plant, bearing small to occasionally medium sized fruits that are a collection of capsuled carpels. The fruits are edible, said to have a sweet flavour and are collected wild and sometimes traded in local markets. As the vine naturally grows in mountainous regions. Other name - black tiger fruit and known as  “the good fruit of skin maintenance”. 
      Kadsura coccinea is an evergreen Climber. It is in leaf all year, in flower from May to July, and the seeds ripen from August to November. The species is dioecious (individual flowers are either male or female, but only one sex is to be found on any one plant so both male and female plants must be grown if seed is required) . The plant is not self-fertile.
      This is a red to dark purple Edible fruit used as raw or cooked. A sweet flavour.   This  fruit can be 6 – 10 cm or more in diameter, made up of 50 - 60 or more individual fruits in a plant.  The roasted fruit is a hypnotic and sedative.  The roots and stems are used for treating gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastroenteritis, rheumatism, lumbago, dysmenorrhea, and for improving blood circulation.

6     Kiwi Fruit   
       Kiwi – actinidia deliciosa


      Kiwis are small fruits that pack a lot of flavor and plenty  of health benefits. Their green flesh is sweet and tangy. It’s also full of nutrients like vitamin C, vitamin K, vitamin E, folate, and potassium. They also have a lot of antioxidants and are a good source of fiber. Their small black seeds are edible, as is the fuzzy brown peel, though many prefer to peel the kiwi before eating it.  Other name - Chinese gooseberry.
      About the size of an egg, kiwifruit is wrapped in a russet-brown thin skin with short rather stiff hairs. The kaleidoscope-like almost glistening emerald green firm pulp is dotted with a large amount of dark nearly black tiny edible seeds that create this fruit's characteristic interior starburst pattern. Sometimes the flesh may be yellow, brownish or off-white. Sweet tart with a slightly acidic edge, this decorative fruit's succulent flavour is mainly sweet.

7    Kuy Fruit   
       Kuy - willughbeia cochinchinensis

Kuy is a kind of plant, a vine that grows in the mountains and when the fruit is ripe, it has herbs. It is a delicious or sweet delicacy that most women like to eat, and it is ripe in the spring only in April and May every year. Other name Kui.

A wild fruit with a sweet, sour, yellow-orange in colour and can be found on some of the main national roads in Phnom Penh (Cambodia) after it was picked from Vines that cling to large trees in Cambodia's mountainous areas can sell for up to 45,000 riel (1 USD → 4,088 Cambodian riel) per kilogram. This wild fruit can be harvested only once a year, and this plants grows naturally in the mountains, a large vine that bears fruit from February to May.
