Fruits name starts with the letter " I "


1      Ice Cream Bean Fruit                                         
        Ice Cream Bean - Inga edulis

        This Fruit is a long pod, sometimes a few feet in length, containing a bright-white pulp surrounding several large seeds. Flavour is sweet and resembles vanilla ice cream. 
         The Ice Cream bean trees usually fruiting within three to four years of germination. It typically reaches heights of 15meters and develops a broad spreading canopy, ideal for shading and landscaping. The yellow and white flowers give way to the bean pods which ripen periodically throughout the year. Ice cream bean fruits have thick fibrous walls. The inner cottony pulp is sweet and snowy white with a flavour that is, not surprisingly, reminiscent of vanilla ice cream. The texture is that of a chewy cotton candy with a juicy finish.
         The pulpy interior of the Ice Cream bean is a good source of dietary fiber, polyphenols, anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatories. The seeds should not be consumed raw, but when roasted provide a rich source of protein.

2     Ilama Fruits                                                                   
       Ilama Fruit - annona diversifolia  

       There are two types of ilama, green and pink. The green type has a flesh that is white and sweet, while the pink type has rosy-colored flesh with a sweet tart taste.
       The fruit, which is either cone-shaped, heart-shaped, or ovular. it is about six inches (15 cm) long and may weigh as much as 1kg.
        The fruit having similarities in both shape and size to the cherimoya. The rind tends to be either green or pink-purple, with white or pinkish flesh respectively. Some varieties have deep red flesh. Flavour is said to be excellent in many varieties, rivaling that of the cherimoya and sugar apple.
        It is family of the soursop and custard apple. The fruits must be harvested when the first cracks occur. The fruit is still hard and needs a few days to soften. Fruits harvested too early will not ripen.

3    Imbe Fruits                                                                         
      Imbe - garcinia livingstonei   

        Imbe Fruits trees are traditional food plant in Africa with less popularity. This evergreen small tree grows to 4 to15 m tall. Mainly grown as an ornamental fruit, they are consumed sometimes.
       Other names African mangosteen, lowveld mangosteen, Livingstone's garcinia is a species of Garcinia, native to a broad area of tropical Africa.  Fruit an orange berry, 10-40 mm in diameter, with yellowish orange, sticky juice.
         The fruit is very popular locally, and has a good flavour, but its thin skin and subsequent susceptibility to damage has hindered commercial cultivation. The plant is occasionally cultivated for its fruit, especially in Mozambique, Florida, Cuba and south-east Asia.

4     Iyokan Fruit                                                           
                                                                 
    Iyokan is a Japanese citrus fruit, similar in appearance to a mandarin orange, arising from a cross between the Dancy tangerine and another mandarin variety, the Kaikoukan. It is the second most widely produced citrus fruit in Japan after the satsuma mandarin.
      A refreshingly sweet and sour fragrance bursts forth from the freshly-peeled thick skin. The large and juicy chunks of fruit contain loads of sweet and sour juice.  
    The peel is thicker, but it can be peeled by hand. The skin is very shiny and brightly colored and, once peeled, the flesh gives off a very strong scent.  The flesh is slightly sour and more bitter than an orange, but sweeter than a grapefruit.
