1     Quandong Fruit
       Quandong - santalum acuminatum

The desert quandong, also known as the native peach, is a small tree up to 4 m high with rough dark bark and light green, slightly leathery leaves. The flowers are small and greenish. The fruit is green, turning bright red when ripe, sometimes with touches of yellow. The native fruit, a member of the sandalwood family, grows throughout arid and semi-arid areas of Australia.  It is usually found in sandy, grassy areas, often near waterways, salt lakes or hills. Fruits usually ripen in September or October, depending on rainfall.
The fleshy fruit, although sometimes a little tart, has a pleasant taste when ripe, similar to a cross between apricots, peaches and rhubarb. The fruit is highly nutritious, having a vitamin C content twice that of an orange. Dried fruit, collected from under the tree, are easily reconstituted in water. Excess fruits may be pounded and made into cakes to be dried and stored for later use.

3    Queen Sago
      Queen Sago - cycas circinalis

Queen Sago is a species of cycad known in the wild, only from southern India and this species found among native Sri Lankan flora. Other names: Sago Palm, Queen sago, Fern Palm, Queen Sago Palm, Eenthu, Eenth, Enth.
The palm-like queen sago has a short, dark brown, unbranching trunk topped with graceful, arching, medium green, feathery leaves, 6 to 8 feet long. Although slow-growing, queen sago is much prized for its light-textured tropical effect and easy care and makes an excellent lawn specimen or container plant for large areas.
The plant is widely cultivated in Hawaii, both for its appearance in landscape and interiors, and for cut foliage.  In the Philippines, it is locally known as patubo, pitogo or bitogo.
All parts of a sago palm, especially the seeds, are extremely poisonous when ingested by humans or animals. The toxin causes gastrointestinal irritation and a large amount may cause liver failure. The potent poison in the seeds is removed by soaking them in water. Water from the first seed-soaking will kill birds, goats, sheep and hogs. Water from the following soakings is said to be harmless. Minimum of 5 Soakings needed to ensure the safety.  After the final soaking, the seeds are dried and ground into flour. The flour is used to make tortillas, tamales, soup and porridge.

Quince trees form an attractive umbrella shape and the golden yellow fruits look great when they are ripe in late summer and early autumn. Quinces grow well on many soils and in a wide range of climates. They perform best in areas with warm autumn weather to help ripen fruit. The average mature size for a quince tree is 3–4 metres.
This is a good fruit for making jams and jellies. Excellent for planting along fences and walls and can also be potted in large containers for the deck or patio.
